Not too long ago, news broke that Grok, the generative AI chatbot created by Elon Musk’s xAI, has begun consulting Musk’s own posts on X (formerly Twitter) when forming opinions on controversial topics.
To be fair, the model discloses this behavior openly. It sometimes says things like: “Searching for Elon Musk’s views on U.S. immigration...” before offering an opinion.
But here’s the problem: when a machine’s perspective starts mirroring the unfiltered feed of its founder, we’re no longer training models—we’re building algorithmic echo chambers.
This is not just a quirk of engineering—it’s a warning sign for anyone concerned with AI ethics, AI oversight for brand safety, and the future of human-centered AI strategy.
This Is Why We Still Need Humans at the Helm
AI can analyze patterns. It can summarize viewpoints. But it doesn’t understand balance, context, or consequence. It doesn’t pause to ask:
“Is this source credible?”“Is this perspective ethical?”“Is this serving the greater good—or just reflecting influence?”
Those are human questions.
And answering them well requires more than a prompt. It requires judgment—earned through time, trial, and actual consequences. This is where AI and leadership intersect in critical, often overlooked ways.
What’s at Risk?
